　　The Other said something in a language that Will did not know； his voice was like the cracking of ice on a winter lake， and the words were mocking。

　　异鬼开口用一种威尔听不懂的语言说了几句话，声音如冰湖碎裂，腔调充满嘲弄。

　　mocking，原形mock，指取笑，或者模仿别人来讥笑嘲弄，是比较正式的用词，和laugh at、make fun of sb。都可指嘲笑。需要注意的是mock是动词，这里用了the words were mocking 是过去进行时，表示那个时刻的动作。

　　Ser Waymar Royce found his fury。 “For Robert！” he shouted， and he came up snarling， lifting the frost-covered longsword with both hands and swinging it around in a flat sidearm slash with all his weight behind it。 The Other’s parry was almost lazy。

　　snarling，是指呲牙咧嘴低声咆哮。这里对Waymar咬牙怒吼的形象进行了细致地描绘。

　　The Other’s parry was almost lazy。一个almost相当的传神地表达了异鬼简直懒得抵挡。

　　When the blades touched， the steel shattered。

　　两剑相击，钢剑应声碎裂。

　　shattered，原形shatter， 指突然破碎成几段或者碎片。911事件，The explosion shattered World Trade Center。

　　也可指希望或信念破灭。Their hopes and dreams were shattered by war。

　　尖叫声回荡在深夜的林里，罗伊斯的长剑裂成千千碎片，如同一阵针雨四散甩落。罗伊斯惨叫着跪下，伸手捂住双眼，鲜血从他指缝间汩汩流下。

　　brittle， 指坚硬而又脆弱。看起来好像很矛盾，但是想象一下干脆的树枝，陶瓷，和骨质酥松……

　　scattering，原形scatter，撒落。

　　比如做菜电视节目主持人说，把洋葱撒在鱼的面上。Scatter the onions over the fish。

　　也可以指把集合在一起的物品给驱散开。美国是一个可以持有枪支的国家，所以那里的人们也有可能遇到这样的状况：The sound of gunfire made the crowd scatter in all directions。听到枪声，人群四散奔逃。

　　文中的scattering用分词形式，是独立主格的用法。

　　went to his knees，go/ sink/ fall/ drop to sb’s knees，都是跪下的意思。

　　shrieking，原形shriek，是惊声尖叫的意思，和scream的含义相同。原文中shrieking是动词的现在分词，表动作伴随状态。

　　还记得一个绿色怪物的动画系列电影么？那个和这个单词正好差了一个字母，，要注意两者的发音——元音完全不同。shriek 的ie发长音[i]{标注， 美式KK音标}，而Shrek的e发的是[?]。
